LONDON — Ben Williamson, who recently sat down with Oaklands College for our student success feature, was invited to film a segment of this year’s BRITs 2020 show for the Rising Star Shortlist.

Ben impressed so much at a previous work experience placement, that he was hand-picked by a Content Agency Director who had realised Ben’s potential and passion for film, whilst as a Lighting Assistant at a theatre.

Ben said: “The Brits will be live in February from the O2 in London. I was part of the lighting crew for the pre-recorded interview and performances. This involved rigging and wiring up the lighting used on set.

During the day, we filmed 3 artists who had been nominated for the ‘Rising Star Award’ (formerly the ‘Critics Choice’). The videos produced included an interview and a live performance and were published on YouTube.”

The opportunity to continue building his portfolio of work is one of upmost importance to Ben, who has actively sought after work experience opportunities to further develop his skills throughout his studies before and during studying a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Media Production & Technology.

The Abbey Road Studios, made famous by bands such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Florence and the Machine recording iconic albums is a historic recording studio established in 1931 by the Gramophone Company and is an iconic building in the music industry.
