Extended Diploma in Multimedia Design & Animation students at Oaklands College were given an opportunity to work on an exciting live brief from original story-writer, Rob Selby.

Rob Selby’s story titled; The Adventures of Wool and Woods, follows characters Henry and Layla, who recently moved from the city to the hamlet of Orbiton, where they stumble across the woollen creatures from Woollen Woods and learn the importance of local wildlife.

All of the Multimedia Design and Animation students, under the instruction of their tutor; Huma Yousaf, worked to a professional level and met with Rob on a regular basis to ensure their work was to the highest quality. The students produced their own original illustrations to accompany the story and characters designed by Paula Selby who knitted all the characters of Woollen Woods.

After much deliberation, Sophie King’s work was the most outstanding, with her level of commitment and dedication to the brief. At the end of the Academic Year, Sophie will continue to illustrate the entire children’s book, which is in the pipeline to be published.

Rob Selby said: “The standard of illustrations that the students produced was quite exceptional and their personal interpretation of each character made them all the more special. My wife and I felt that Sophie King had excelled with the story with her illustrations which had given the story a new lease of life. We plan for Sophie to pursue the entire story as a freelance illustrator. I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all their hard work and endeavor in this project.”
