A group of Oaklands Music students helped the grand opening of Headcase Barbers in St Albans go with a bang.

Students Beth Hedges, Abbie Gathard, Ben Day and Anne Nichols serenaded guests at the new barbers on Holywell Hill which opened recently.

Beth said: “I was interested in performing at this event because it was so different, it’s not everyday you’re asked to perform next to people having ‘a bit off the top’! I also try to put myself forward for as many gigs as possible because I love performing.

“My tutors at Oaklands have definitely helped me to become much more confident with my music and always encourage me to work hard to get gigs and perform as much as possible.”

Ben said: “I think it’s important as a performer to get as much experience as possible in as many types of venue as possible. I had never played in a barber shop and it sounded fun and different so we thought we’d just go for it and it was really worth it. It was a lot of fun and very chilled out.”

Martin Nobbs, co-founder of Headcase, said: “We always do what we can to get involved with the local community, so having the students from Oaklands come down, as well as the Centurions Rugby League Team, and support our launch couldn’t have been better.

“Having seen how professional the students were, and knowing they had fun, we’re hoping to work with Oaklands throughout 2015 to see if we can make this type of live acoustic event a regular thing at our barber shop so more of our customers can see the local talent St Albans has to offer.”
