At the beginning of this month, Oaklands College Music students staged an exciting concert at The Pioneer Club in St. Albans.

The event launched the newly formed partnership between the Music team and Youth Connexions, Hertfordshire.

Three bands covering many different musical styles and genres performed energetic sets to a packed audience. They covered rock, metal, hip hop and indie during the evening.

Alan Richardson, Music Practice Course Co-ordinator at Oaklands College, said: “The Pioneer boasts an excellent live space with an impressive in-house sound-system and lighting rig. It is a real honour for the College to be able to offer the students on our Music course real performance experience at such a venue and gives the students a high level of exposure as to what  a ‘real’ live performance is.”

The Pioneer is an esteemed Youth Centre with excellent facilities that gives local young people the opportunity to enter into social and educational programmes while organising and running the kind of activities that they are interested in.

Music students from Oaklands have spent the academic year developing the necessary skills to work as a group, selecting and learning material, rehearsing, recording in the studio and performing in College to prepare for this concert.

This performance will be followed up at the same venue with the Second Year Final Show on 24 June featuring three bands: The Original door, Leather Daddies and The Shuffles.

Music starts @ 7pm – admission £2 students with valid ID, £3 without. Advance tickets are available from alan.richardson@oaklands.ac.uk
