New additions to the sheep flock at Oaklands

The College has recently purchased five pedigree Suffolk sheep

The college has recently purchased five pedigree Suffolk sheep which will be the foundation stock for a new ‘hartoak’ flock of pedigree sheep.

The new additions were purchased from a dispersal sale held in Carlisle, Cumbria, and three of the sheep are expecting twins in the middle of March, some of which will be retained for further breeding.

The Suffolk sheep will not only be featured at local shows including Herts County, but will also give Animal Care and Landmark students the opportunity to learn new skills including handling and care, growth rates and breeding values.
