New football scheme to launch in WGC

WELWYN GARDEN CITY — From September this year, Oaklands College will be running a new football scheme at Monk’s Walk School, WGC.

The first of its kind in WGC, the scheme has been set up especially to nurture young, talented local footballers, aged 16-18.

It will offer them the opportunity to improve and hone their football skills as well as undertaking education in the form of a BTEC course in Sports Studies.

Players will study units incluidng sports coaching, anatomy, physiology and practical team sport which will open up a variety of future opportunities.

Coaching sessions will be planned to improve all aspects of the players, from techinical ability through to the psychological demands of the sport.

All of the sessions will be delivered by a ‘UEFA B’ licensed coach, experienced helping new talent gain contracts at clubs within the semi-professional and professional levels.

Only 20 places are available for the first intake.
