  • St Albans Wolves Football Academy Open Trials

    Dates: 06 – 06 Apr, 2018

    St Albans Wolves Football Academy have been in partnership with St Albans Football Club for 14 years creating pathways into semi-professional and professional football.

    Oaklands College provide fantastic opportunities for ambitious young players to continue their education in an excellent institution as well as work on developing their skills in sport.

    10.30: Arrival

    Please report to reception at the St Albans Campus after you have found a parking space and they will register you for free parking – then go to the Sapsed Room (in the Mansion House).

    11.00: Presentation
    Time for the parents to discuss the Academy and get to know each other. Topics may include academic options, bursary, accommodation, day-to-day life as a SAFA student athlete.  

    11.45: Practical
    Start of the trials, we’ll be training for just under two hours in a relaxed environment. Parents can use this time to ask our non-coaching staff any questions and have a College tour to check out the facilities Oaklands College has to offer.

    14.00: Finish

    The trials should be finished by 14:00. Due to circumstances on the day we advise parents to give us a half hour leeway (13:45 – 14:15). All our staff, including our coaches, will be available for any questions you may have after the trials.

    What to do after Oaklands...

    So what next? Another year at college, university, an apprenticeship, gap year, go into work? Thinking about what to do after your time at Oaklands can be confusing, scary and stressful if you are not sure if it is education, employer of training. Where do you start and where do you find the information to make this vital decision?

    To help you gain advice and guidance to make this important decision, Oaklands College, will be running its end of year What Next? Fair at both Welwyn Garden City and St Albans Campus in May.

    The What Next? Fair will be a great opportunity to meet face to face those who can give you impartial information to make plans going forward from employers, universities, apprenticeship providers and careers advice professionals. This event is for all levels whether you are still continuing studies with Oaklands and consider what career is right for you to looking at your next steps into the world of work.

  • Summer Fair 2019

    ‘Sun's out, Fun's out!’ for our annual Summer Fair event, a great day of FREE family fun hosted at our St Albans Campus this June.

    Come and meet our animals, enjoy the thrills and spills on the Funfair and soak up the atmosphere with live music and dance displays on stage. With tents a plenty and stalls selling gifts, crafts and homemade goods and lots to fill hungry tums in our Food Court, there’s plenty for all the family for a great day out.

    The event, which has been running for over 10 years, draws thousands from the local community to campus, bringing together the best bits of College Life from our Curriculum teams and wider community groups and charities.

    We take advantage of our expansive green spaces to transform our sports field to host a range of fun activities for all ages from inflatable activity courses to donkey rides. It’s a full College affair and our privilege to be able to welcome you all on campus to enjoy the range of activities we have on offer.

    You can take a selfie in the College kit car, grab a plant for the garden from the Horticulture team, and even task the little ones with building a wall with our bricklaying team. Our Beauty teams are on hand for a quick pamper sesh, and our Equine and Animal Management team welcome guests to meet our animal family up at Oaklands Habitat. 

    Entry is FREE, and parking will be available on site.

  • Oaklands Art Exhibition at St Albans Cathedral

    Oaklands College students will be exhibiting an exciting array of artwork at the St Albans Cathedral this April!

    The project allows students to take a deep look at questions being raised by political and social changes in the contemporary World.


    The Art Exhibition will be displayed on Friday - Sunday. Opening times are:

  • Oaklands Wolves Women's Rugby Academy Open Day

    Dates: 18 – 18 Feb, 2020

    Join us for our Women's Rugby Academy Open Day to discover how to join the Oaklands Wolves Rugby Academy in September 2020.

    Since 2006, in partnership with Saracens Rugby Club, Oaklands College have provided fantastic opportunity for ambitious young rugby players to continue their education in an excellent institution as well as work intensively on developing their skills in sport.

    Joining Wolves Academy at Oaklands College gives students aged 16 to 19 a way to grow with a view to progressing to the professional game, club rugby in the national or local leagues, or university and beyond.

    This is our first Rugby Open Day specifically for Women's Rugby, with our intention to launch the Women's Rugby Academy in September 2020.

  • Lambing Weekend 2019

    Dates: 16 – 17 Mar, 2019

    Join us to meet our brand new lambs on the College Farm!

    In March we open our doors for our annual Lambing Weekend, which welcomes the local community to come and meet our newborn lambs.

    This year the event will be held on, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th March 2019, giving a great opportunity to the whole family to enjoy a spring day out. 

    What happens on the day?

    As well as seeing the lambs and ewes in our Lambing Barns, you will be able to learn about the different stages of lambing and chat to our Agriculture students, who are on call throughout lambing season supporting our College Farm Manager to deliver the expected 348 new arrivals this Spring.

    Our Equine and Animal Care departments will also be on hand to introduce you to some of our wider animal family including reptiles, rabbits and horses up at the Equine yard and in our Oaklands Habitat Centre. For those interested, Oaklands College staff will be available to chat about our Land based courses which include Animal Care, Horticulture and Equine Studies.

    Take advantage of Donkey rides, our on-site Farmers Market, our Family games area and enjoy a wealth of hot a cold refreshments during your day. There’s even the opportunity to snap a memento in our Lambing Weekend family photo booth to make it a Day to remember!

    Younger guests will be able to complete our ‘Farm Trail’ by picking up an activity sheet at the entrance – a great way to take in some fun farm facts as your work your way round.

    Admission

    Entry to the event is by ticket only. Each attendee will need to have their own ticket, unless under three years of age. You can get your ticket here.

    You will need to book a chosen day, and an morning or afternoon slot. This is to help manage high volumes of visitors following feedback from last year’s event. The slots are just for entry and won't restrict the time you'd like to spend on site.

    For the afternoon ticket holders, we advise that you arrive no later than 2.30pm as the event ends at 3pm.

    Please note that out of respect for the welfare of our animals we cannot permit dogs on campus during this event.

    Parking and arrival on site

    We have commissioned a Park & Ride service which runs from the University of Hertfordshire, Angerlands, South Way, Hatfield AL10 8HS. Buses will run from about 9.45am throughout the day. We anticipate buses to run approximately every 20 minutes with the last bus departing about 3.30pm.

    St Albans Campus holds very limited parking with priority given to Blue Badge holders. We encourage all visitors to use the Park & Ride service, offering a transfer of just a few minutes which will bring you directly on site.

    Please have your tickets printed (or on the Eventbrite app) and ready to scan to ensure swift admission for your family.

  • St Albans Remembers Veterans' Lunch

    Dates: 08 – 08 Nov, 2018
    To commemorate the centenary of the end of World War I, we are opening our Stables Restaurant for a free lunch on Thursday 8th November, exclusively for war veterans. This is in collaboration with the St Albans Remembers and supporting the #ThereButNotThere Campaign.

    Our catering students will cook and serve lunch, our photography students have been taking St Albans Remembers photos (see above) which we will display and our Public Services students will be on hand at the event.

    Elevate Basketball is running its first camp this October half term!

    This fun junior camp is open to boys and girls aged 5-16 years old. All abilities are welcome to come along, have fun and learn new skills.

    All camp attendees will receive one FREE family ticket to a Oaklands Wolves WBBL home game of your choice.

    Dates: Wednesday 31st October t to Friday 2nd November.

    Time: 9.30am to 3.30pm - we offer an early drop off (9am)/late pick up (4pm) service available for an additional £2.50

    Joining Wolves Academy at Oaklands College gives students aged 16 to 19 a way to grow with a view to progressing into the professional game via club rugby in the national or local leagues, university and beyond.

    The Taster day will begin at 10:30AM and finish at approximately 13:30PM and will include:

    • A Taster Skills Session
    • A Taster Video analysis Session
    • A Taster Gym Session
    • A presentation for parents
    • A Trial Training Session*

    The taster day is broken into two parts, the first part is to show you what you might expect from a typical day at the college, with skills, gym and video analysis sessions taking place for prospective applicants to participate in.

    Parents will have the opportunity to watch the skills session and then there will be a short presentation for the parents, whilst the prospective students continue with their taster sessions.

    The second part of the day will involve a short trial to assess the playing ability of those in attendance. We are not expecting to see 30-40 international standard rugby players at each event, but we do expect a certain level of competence within the core skills; pass, catch, run, tackle, as well as a reasonable level of physical fitness and a drive to improve.
