  • Oaklands Wolves Rugby Open Days

    Dates: 27 – 27 Oct, 2017

Join us for one of our open events to discover how to join the Oaklands Wolves Rugby Academy in September 2018.

Since 2006, in partnership with Saracens Rugby Club, Oaklands College have provided fantastic opportunity for ambitious young rugby players to continue their education in an excellent institution as well as work intensively on developing their skills in sport.

Joining Wolves Academy at Oaklands College gives students aged 16 to 19 a way to grow with a view to progressing to the professional game, club rugby in the national or local leagues, or university and beyond.

The Taster day will begin at 10.30, and finish at approximately 13.00 and will include:

    • A Taster Skills Session
    • A Taster Video analysis Session
    • A Taster Gym Session
    • A presentation for parents
    • A Trial Training Session*

The taster day is broken into two parts, the first part is to show you what you might expect from a typical day at the college, with skills, gym and video analysis sessions taking place for prospective applicants to participate in.

Parents will have the opportunity to watch the skills session and then there will be a short presentation for the parents whilst the prospective students continue with their taster sessions.

The second part of the day will involve a short trial to assess playing ability of those in attendance. We are not expecting to see 30-40 international standard rugby players at each event, but we do expect a certain level of competence within the core skills; pass, catch, run, tackle, as well as a reasonable level of physical fitness and a drive to improve.

    Book your place

We will be running four events this academic year, please book for one most convenient to you.

    • Friday 27th October 2017
    • Friday 16th February 2018

  • HND Performing Arts to perform in London Theatre

    Dates: 25 – 25 Jun, 2017

HND Performing Arts students have got a fantastic opportunity - to tread the boards at a top London theatre to paying guests with their final showcase performance this weekend.

Students will take to the stage at the  Southwark’s The Cervantes Theatre, which is nestled near The Old and Young Vic to perform their final showcase ‘Edges’ next Sunday, June 25th at 7.30pm.

The Cervantes Theatre is a venue used by many top London theatre schools for showcases, meaning our students will be right amongst the mix of up and coming talent taking to the stage to performing for a paying crowd.

The team have been working on American musical review ‘Edges’ for the past six weeks in anticipation of a final performance. Thanks to the hard work of the tutors and the support of the theatres in encouraging young talent, they now have the opportunity to take this performance to stage in our nation’s capital to a brand new audience.

They have worked hard to adapt the performance’s complex themes and material into a one hour theatre performance and after road testing the show on a local secondary school audience, are ready to hit the stage next weekend.

Tickets are available for £10 each by emailing myraidtheatre@yahoo.co.uk. You can also attend a performance at our on campus theatre the Myriad Theatre tomorrow evening from 7pm. Email as before for tickets.

    Open Evening - a vlogger's view

So what is it really like to come to Open Evening and what is College Life all about? This vlog we found online is from Ben, a student looking to join us for Media in September. He came along last year and produced this short video about his experience and shared it on You Tube - why not take a a look?
