Join us to meet our brand new lambs on the College Farm!
In March we open our doors for our annual Lambing Weekend, which welcomes the local community to come and meet our newborn lambs.
This year the event falls on Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th March 2018, giving a great opportunity to the whole family to enjoy a spring day out.
What happens on the day?
As well as seeing the lambs and ewes in our Lambing Barns, you will be able to learn about the different stages of lambing and chat to our Agriculture students, who are on call throughout lambing season supporting our College Farm Manger to deliver the expected 348 new arrivals this Spring.
Our Equine and Animal Care departments will also be on hand to introduce you to some of our wider animal family including reptiles, rabbits and horses up at the Equine yard and in our Oaklands Habitat centre. For those interested, Oaklands College staff will be available to chat about our Land based courses which include Animal Care, Horticulture and Equine Studies.
Take advantage of Donkey rides, our on-site Farmers Market, our Family games area and enjoy a wealth of hot a cold refreshments during your day. There’s even the opportunity to snap a memento in our Lambing Weekend family photo booth to make it a Mother’s Day to remember!
Younger guests will be able to complete our ‘Farm Trail’ by picking up an activity sheet at the entrance – a great way to take in some fun farm facts as your work your way round.
Entry to the event is by ticket only. Each attendee will need to have their own ticket, unless under three years of age.
You will need to book a chosen day, and an morning or afternoon slot. This is to help manage high volumes of visitors following feedback from last year’s event. The slots are just for entry and won't restrict the time you'd like to spend on site.
For the afternoon ticket holders, we advise that you arrive no later than 2.30pm as the event ends at 3pm.
Please note that out of respect for the welfare of our animals we cannot permit dogs on campus during this event.
Parking and arrival on site
We have commissioned a Park & Ride service which runs from the University of Hertfordshire from about 9.45am throughout the day. We anticipate buses to run approximately every 20 minutes with the last bus departing about 3.30pm.
St Albans Campus holds very limited parking with priority given to Blue Badge holders. We encourage all visitors to use the Park & Ride service, offering a transfer of just a few minutes which will bring you directly on site.
Please have your tickets printed (or on the Eventbrite app) and ready to scan to ensure swift admission for your family.
Please note that there are risks associated with lambing and pregnancy. If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, we advise you that you do not attend the day.
