Oaklands College Athletics Academy student Martina Barber recently returned from the INAS European Championships in Prague, Czech Republic, where she won 2 gold medals in the heptathlon and 4x400m relay.

INAS is an international charity and the recognised International Federation (IOSD) for athletes with an intellectual disability and this is the second year Martina has competed within the prestigious organisation.

Since joining Oaklands’ Athletics Academy Martina has competed at the World Championships, in Manchester in both the heptathlon and the 60m hurdles, the Olympic Stadium, Stratford where she won gold in the 1500m and silver in the shot put and the INAS twice, last year winning silver and this year returning home with the championship title, as well as other local competitions.

Ryan Freckleton, Athletics Academy Manager and Coach, commented: “Martina’s triumph is a combination of hard work, talent and dedication. Her successes reflect on the high standards of our Athletics Academy which combines education with sports training, providing the ideal route for young athletes to progress without either their education or training taking a back seat.”
