Oaklands Borehamwood College Campus gets the green light

Oaklands College will be opening its third campus in Borehamwood after planning permission got the go ahead from Hertsmere Borough Council last night.

The four storey building on Todd Close, just off Elstree Way will house a brand new site for the College, securing its place as its third official campus alongside established sites in St Albans and Welwyn Garden City.

First floor of the new site will house state of the art construction workshop facilities, classroom based provisions, community-learning courses and full-time provision for English for Speakers of Other Languages.

The College also plans to offer Apprenticeships, Employability courses and will focus on offering courses that meet the local need in giving people the skills they need to gain employment or progress their education.

To further develop the Borehamwood offer the College provides a travel scheme which enables students to travel and continue their studies at the Colleges other campuses for just £1 per day. Those from households with lower income will be able to access this service for free.

Twelve new apartments will also sit above the new building including affordable housing in the shape of shared ownerships schemes which will help meet the local housing need.

Oaklands College Director of Student Experience Sean Scully said: “Throughout every stage of our proposal and planning process we have researched local need, engaged with stakeholders and taken on board feedback to shape a new site for Oaklands College.

“This is an exciting opportunity to get the College back in the heart of the Borehamwood Community.”
