A busy apprentice got the shock of her life when she was announced Young Person of the Year at this year’s St Albans Chamber of Commerce Community Business Awards.

Twenty-one-year-old Morgana Evans, who is undertaking an Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration, was awarded the accolade at a glittering award ceremony at St Albans Cathedral last week.

“When I first started my apprenticeship with Oaklands, I never imagined that a year down the line, I would be on stage accepting a business award,” said the St Albans resident. “I was extremely shocked when my name was called out to announce I had actually won.”

“Since starting my Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration I have met some amazing people in my work place and in the business world who have all been really supportive and have helped me to improve my knowledge and skills to help build towards my future career.”

Morgana has had the chance to work in several local businesses, including e-publisher The Endless Bookcase, lawn treatment provider Weed Man and tanning specialist SunSpa – this has helped her gain experience and expertise across different sectors.

“I have had a great time so far and I’m ecstatic about winning the Young Person of the Year award. It has motivated me to further myself more and prove to the judges that they were not wrong to choose me as the winner.”

Morgana hopes to go on to study Business with the Open University on a part-time basis so she can continue working. When she completes her studies, she is keen to go into business with her mum Melanie.
