Oaklands College against Exiles – Oaklands College win 36-22 against London Irish Apprentices

Oaklands College continued their strong start to the season with a 36-22 victory over high flying London Irish Apprentices last week.

Oaklands College continued their strong start to the season with a 36-22 victory over high flying London Irish Apprentices last week.

In bright sunny conditions, the young Saracens Apprentices signalled their attacking intent from the start, registering the first score of the afternoon from a scrum deep inside their own half with Tremayne Noel touching down in the corner.

This was followed by a chip and chase from Ross Bird, out-sprinting the Irish defence to gather and touch down, and two scores from Academy prop Nick Auterac, all before half-time.

Irish started the second half in a determined fashion and Oaklands were not quite able to match the furious pace of the first 40 minutes, allowing their opponents back into the game with two tries, before Bird sealed the win with a solo effort from inside his own half, beating six Irish defenders before touching down for his second try, and the Saracens Apprentices’ fifth of the day.

Oaklands College are next in action against Leeds Carnegie Apprentices in the National RFU Apprenticeship league this week, where they will want to continue and improve on this impressive win against the Irish, currently leaders of the Southern Conference Apprenticeship league.
