Oaklands Dragons Apprentices close to fundraising target

As the end of the Dragons Apprentice challenge approaches, Oaklands College business students are fast approaching their target of raising £1000 for Camphill charity, in St. Albans.

The competition, open to local schools and colleges, gave teams £100 seed money with the challenge of turning it into £1000 by the end of January. All money raised goes to a charity of their choice and Oaklands College Business students have chosen Camphill Charity in St Albans, providing support for adults with learning difficulties.

The team have uncovered their entrepreneurial flair and run events ranging from beauty treatments for staff at St Albans District Council to running a FIFA 2011 knockout competition, where students compete on game consoles.

Paul Kirikal, Lecturer in Business at Oaklands College, said: “Our students have approached this competition with a mature and determined attitude and thoroughly enjoyed putting their creative ideas into action.

“Competitions like this are really important in giving learners real-life work experience, developing skills and boosting confidence, as well as offering them sought-after extra-curricular activities that will enhance their opportunities for further education. “
