A budding fashionista used a rather unusual material to create awareness for recycling.

Danielle Potter, a 17-year-old A Levels student, wanted to explore how fashion and advertising could be used to express the importance of recycling for her AS Level Extended Project.

Being a vegetarian, Danielle decided to use packaging from Quorn products to make a dress.

“I started asking my family and friends to keep their packaging but after three months I still didn’t have enough,” said Danielle.

“I contacted Quorn asking if they would be able to send me any disused, samples or seconds packaging and amazingly, they said yes!

“Three weeks later a big box full of both plastic and cardboard packaging arrived at my door. I began making the dress immediately with the help of my amazing nan, who is an experienced sewer.”

Not only did Danielle feature on Quorn’s official Twitter feed, but she also graced the pages of the Hertfordshire Advertiser newspaper.

Danielle is hoping to study Fashion Promotion at Ravensbourne University this September after she has finished her A Levels.

The Extended Project gives students the chance to work on a project they as passionate about, and is viewed very highly by many universities. Find out more about it here.
