Fashionistas of the future got a taste of what it is really like to work in the fashion industry when they took part in the Cathedral Catwalk Show for St Albans Fashion Week.

Current Fashion students from the College took to the catwalk at St Albans Cathedral as models, displaying stunning garments designed and made by last year’s Fashion students.

Student Zoe Alcock, 17, from Codicote, near Hitchin, who modelled on the night, said: “I had never really thought about modelling before but when our tutors told us about the show, I thought it would be a good opportunity to see a different side to fashion and experience that side of the industry.”

Fellow student Meghan Northam, 16, also modelled on the night – “It was brilliant, it was such a good event. It was an amazing experience for me to see how a real catwalk show is run.”

Former student Amber Watts, 19, from Baldock, was very excited about her outfit gracing the catwalk. “I thought it was great to be asked to show my designs. My dress was on the catwalk last year and this is really good way of showing it again and giving people outside the College a chance to see it,” said Amber, who is currently studying Bespoke Tailoring at the London College of Fashion.

Many of the students also modelled outfits from local retailers, including Little Viking, French Connection and John Lewis.

Sarah Easterby, Oaklands’ Fashion Co-ordinator, said: “It was wonderful to see our students strutting their stuff on the catwalk and getting the chance to see what it’s really like to work in this fast-paced industry. Last year’s students worked really hard on their outfits and it made me so proud to see them being worn.”

St Albans Fashion Week is an annual week-long celebration of the very best that the city has to offer in fashion and beauty.
