Oaklands Students take centre stage in Cathedral Photographic Exhibition

The creative captures of Oaklands photography students have been selected to form part of a Young People’s Photography Exhibition, housed at St Albans City Cathedral this month.

The work of ten students studying BTEC Level 3 Photography at the College’s St Albans Campus were selected by judges of the  Museums Trust Young People’s Photographic Competition to form a free public display at the Cathedral until 22nd January.

Now in its fourth year, St Albans Camera Club hosted the competition alongside the St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust, inviting entries from young people studying photography at any school or college in Hertfordshire.

Since judging took place in November, winners announced and now the exhibition shares the competitions entries with the wider public. Despite not taking home a trophy on the day, tutors were incredibly proud to have so many of the College’s students make it to the final cut.

Mike La-Traille, Head of Department in Art, Fashion and Design at Oaklands College said: “With only 40 entries selected overall, Oaklands College students form a quarter of the exhibition – a fantastic representation given the competition was open to young people across the county.

“Showcasing in a public space is a fantastic opportunity for any budding photographer and all the entries made by our students this year are something they should be very proud of.”

The exhibition can be found in the North Transept of the Cathedral, and is open Monday- Friday 8.45am – 4pm, Saturday 8.45- 3pm and Sunday 1pm5pm, until 22nd January 2017.
