Oaklands College students, inspired by global campaigns in response to the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, have begun using their creativity to help the college set out its plans for a sustainable future.

Inspired by the passionate interests of its students, staff at Oaklands College set an internal competition for students to take part in, encouraging them to share their views on climate change, at both college and global level, to help shape the future endeavours of the college.

Taking part in the competition were 48 students, all of whom submitted a variety of engaging art forms, from informative presentations to eye-opening poetry, drawings and songs.

Of the 48 entrants, Oaklands’ Senior Leadership Team met to shortlist seven of the most thought-provoking entrants which would help shape the colleges future plans. The shortlisting process recognised 17 students for their fantastic creative efforts.

The presentations will be on display around both St Albans and Welwyn Garden City campuses on electronic screens in the new year, to educate and inspire fellow students, staff and visitors to campus to think more about the environment and climate, to which we are all responsible for.

Principal and CEO of Oaklands College, Andrew Slade, said: I am incredibly thankful to our students for their thought-provoking work around climate change and sustainability. Many of their ideas, which we have carefully shortlisted, will help our Senior Leadership Team as we set about the College’s Strategic Plan, ensuring sustainability is front and centre of the colleges future plans.
