Oaklands Wolves Add Kenrick Liburd as WBBL Head Coach

ST ALBANS — The Oaklands College Wolves name Coach Kenrick Liburd as the new Head Coach for our Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL) team. Coach Liburd will take the reigns for the Wolves in their inaugural season in the top flight of domestic competition.

Academy Director Michael Ball commented “Kenrick is a great addition to the Wolves family and we are delighted to welcome him to the pack! He brings with him great experience, both domestically and in the US, and can really help our young players along their performance journey. As an academy program the coaches we recruit must be invested in the enhancement of the counties best youth players, with Kenrick we get a coach that is passionate about British player development and someone that is excited to build the game the right way.”

Liburd comes to the program with plenty of experience and knowledge of the WBBL after spending the past two seasons working as an assistant coach with Barking Abbey Crusaders, helping them reach the playoff semi-finals in 2015, and the WBBL Trophy final in 2016. Prior to this, Liburd spent five years as a Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Tennessee Temple University, following four years as a high school head coach and AAU coach in the state of Maine.

The new coach had this to say about his appointment “After meeting with Michael Ball (Academy Director) and Lee Ryan (Head Performance Coach), I was excited by their rapid progress, vision and passion for developing British basketball. You can see that there is a strategic plan to develop all involved and that they are an athlete centered program, with a desire to develop people not just basketball players”.

Liburd, originally from East London, added “This is a great opportunity for me to contribute to the British game, I’m a great believer in the talent we have in this country and the opportunity we have to grow the sport. I am excited to work alongside Lee Ryan to bring an exciting brand of basketball to the league, with the focus of improving every day and competing as hard as we can. I’m under no illusion about the task ahead, but we want to achieve excellence in small steps and have those associated with our club proud of what we do on a daily basis”.

The Wolves begin their preparations for the upcoming season with a friendly game at Oaklands College on 20th August versus Muhlenberg College, PA, USA
