The College’s rugby team took the title at the Herts Schools U18s 7-a-side Tournament on Wednesday 11 March at St Albans School.

The squad started the day well, progressing through the pool stages against Bishop’s Stortford College, Ashlyns, Tring and St George’s schools without conceding a point.

However a semi-final against Haileybury College proved a much tougher affair. There was great play from both sides but it was the Wolves who eventually came out on top with a 26-22 win.

The final match against Berkhamsted School was again highly competitive with a tense first half, finishing 5-5.

However the pace and power of the Wolves began to tell in the second half with scores from Chris Cullen and Jack Longhurst.  The final score was 17-5 to the Wolves.

Oaklands’ Director of Rugby Dave Hesketh said: “I’m immensely proud of the boys. We’d only had minimal preparation time, but the players’ ability to pick up the nuances of the shortened format of the game throughout the day was very pleasing. We had some tough games in the semi-final and final, so it was great to come out on top, and see how well the boys coped with the pressure from some strong teams.”
