The College's team were awarded with a total of fifteen wins, going through to the National Championships on 18-20 July at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire.

On Sunday 11 May, Oaklands College Riding for the Disabled (RDA) team competed in the Eastern Regional RDA qualifier, held at the College for the 6th year.

The College’s team were awarded with a total of fifteen wins, going through to the National Championships on 18-20 July at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire.

Over 100 riders competed on the day in classes that required skill and poise. The Oaklands College RDA team consisted of 35 riders from its Landmark and Equine departments, as well as very own Riding School.

Sarah Moreland, Head of Department Land based Industries, commented: “We had a hugely successful day with many people commenting on the great turnout of our horses.

“To have so many students win just shows the hard work they’ve each put in, and that’s not been without some very difficult obstacles.

“We have had to say goodbye to a few horses and welcomed a few new members, which the students have had to work very hard with.

“One horse, The Maxster, was borrowed 3 weeks prior to the Regionals and our student Shannon Davis has done so well; she was one of the fifteen.”

Nikki Reeder, owner of The Maxster, commented: “So, so proud of The Maxster today, he was part of the Oaklands RDA dressage team and he managed to win both of his tests with two lovely riders and qualify for the National Championships.

“Well done to Sarah Moreland and the team, you must all be immensely proud. It’s a fantastic team to be a part of.”

Zoe Hancock, Principal of Oaklands College and keen supporter of RDA, commented: “For the past 6 years I feel as though I say the same thing; how heart-warming it is to see the inspirational role the RDA plays, and today is no different. We are only too pleased to continue to support this event.

“We have one of the best equestrian departments in the country and are one of the very few venues with facilities capable of hosting this type of event and we remain committed to ensuring that our facilities are used by all of the communities we serve.

“We are all keeping our fingers crossed for the championships in July.”
