ST ALBANS — Children from 23 local primary schools flocked to Oaklands College St Albans this week to put their sporting skills to the test and take part in the eighth annual School Games.

This year’s games, themed in celebration of the upcoming FINA World Aquatics Championships,  saw over 140 Year 4 students and 40 Year 6 sports ambassadors taking part in a wide range of sporting activities including synchronised dance, rugby, football, netball, freestyling, Fit for Sport, American football  and athletics.

Students studying with the College’s elite sporting academy Oaklands Wolves were on hand to run and facilitate the sessions in athletics, netball, football and rugby with additional young sports apprentices and other providers on hand to step in for sessions on American Football and Fit for Sport.

The day was co-organised by Tanya Angus, School Games Manager of the Schools Sports Partnership. Tanya commented:

“The sun was out for a fun filled active day, and the children enjoyed every minute. To see so many children engaged in the variety of activities and really enjoying themselves makes me excited for next year.”

Zoe Hancock, Principal of the College, commented: “We are proud to work closely with local primary schools and the School Games is a great way to bring everyone together for this community initiative.

“The day is great opportunity too for our budding academy sports starts to share a little of their expertise and to encourage the next generation to be enthusiastic about sport. We look forward to continue supporting it in the future.”
