14-16 Practical Learning Opportunity Programme

We have developed a wide and interesting range of vocational courses that run alongside students' GCSE choices. These courses are designed to enhance their learning experience and provide them with an engaging and rewarding experience while developing the skills needed for further studies or employment.

We work in collaboration with schools across St Albans, Harpenden, Welwyn, and Hatfield. This gives students the chance to come and study in an independent environment and to learn new, transferable skills, offering them the best start in their chosen area.

All our Year 10 and 11 courses are delivered by qualified, vocationally trained lecturers and subjects are taught in dedicated, industry-standard facilities to ensure the best possible learning environment.

Schools are supported by a dedicated 14-16 coordinator who will liaise with the school and provide regular feedback.

What are the options?

We currently offer courses in the following areas:

  • Animal Care
  • Hair and Beauty
  • Health, Social Care and Children and Young People's Settings
  • Basic Construction Skills
  • Cookery
  • Motor Vehicle Technology

For all courses students will be offered the chance to attend the college for a practical taster session in their chosen subject. All students will be required to complete an application form and attend an informal interview in the summer term.
