Sports Lecturer proves himself to be a ‘Tough Guy’

Barry Stratford, Sports Lecturer at Oaklands College, recently completed the renowned ‘Tough Guy’ challenge, which is described on its website as ‘The Worlds safest, most dangerous taste of mental and physical pain, fear and endurance’

The competition, which costs around £120 to enter, is run on the last Sunday in January and is said to test your fear of heights, tight spaces, fire, water and electricity.

Along with 6 of his friends, Barry completed the gruelling challenge which included swimming through ice lakes, walking through fire and crawling through barbed wire in an impressive 3 hours and 25 minutes

Barry raised around £300 for his chosen charity, which was the Children’s Hospice South West, and this included £100 from Oaklands staff and students.

He said of the experience: “Although it was a really tough challenge, the spirit and camaraderie helped me through. Anyone can do it if they put their mind to it and it’s worth it for the adrenaline buzz at the end”
