ST ALBANS On Friday 7 June, the fire brigade dealt with a fire at our St Albans Campus. We can confirm all staff and students are safe and well, and the fire has now been extinguished.

There is damage to our Discovery Centre building and we are relocating classes to other spaces for next week’s lessons. We will advise you and the students once these details have been confirmed.

For Monday 10 June, there are no classes within the Springfield provision or Art, Fashion & Design; students have been informed.

We are finding alternative locations for A Levels and GCSE exams. We will keep relevant staff and students informed and all exams will go ahead as planned.

Update:

Following the incident on Friday, we are pleased to say that the college plans to reopen the Discovery Centre for both Art, Fashion & Design and our Springfield students on Monday 17 June. The areas damaged by the fire have been cleared, secured and partitioned to ensure that they cannot be accessed. The Sports Hall side of the building remains closed.

The college has tested and recommissioned the fire alarm system and the refuge call point points throughout the building and this includes emergency lighting. Electricity power and lighting has been restored tested and certified. The lift has also been tested and recommissioned. Appropriate access and exit points have been checked and the fire risk assessment has been updated and reviewed by our external fire assessor following the incident.

We look forward to seeing you back on Monday.
