Sarah Moreland, Equestrian Lecturer at Oaklands College led the St Albans Special Olympics (SOSA) Equestrian Team to outstanding success at the North West Equestrian Championships at the end of last month.

Winning 15 medals out of a potential of 18, the team took a total of six gold medals across dressage, horse care and equitation, as well as five silvers and four bronze.

Sarah, official Great Britain Equestrian Coach for the Special Olympic Games in June 2011, Athens, has been training competitors at the equestrian centre at Oaklands College, building up to the games in 2011.

Sarah commented: “It has been an honour and a privilege to take such a wonderful team away for 3 days to the North West Championships. The athletes have been amazing and really supported each other.

“Our equestrian team has only been running for 2 years and it was our first ‘away match’! Not sure they will be asking St Albans back again as our bus was loaded down with medals – all down to the hard work, training, volunteers, parents and coaches pulling together.

“The SOSA team are looking forward to more competitions and the North West Equestrian Championships have been a fantastic boost to training.”
