Meet Ethan, a Level 3 Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair student currently in his first year at Oaklands College.

We sat down with Ethan whilst on his work experience placement with Glyn Hopkin Renault & Dacia in St Albans, to discuss his Oaklands College experience.

Ethan began studying his Level 1 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair in 2018, before progressing through the Level 2 and onto his current Level 3 course.

Tell us about your experience at Oaklands College, have you enjoyed it?

“Yes – I’ve enjoyed learning on the job and in a practical environment, I’ve enjoyed practising in the workshop and developing transferable skills which I can use whilst on work experience and when I enter full-time employment.”

What are some of the things you’ve worked on, during your time at Oaklands?

“I’ve been able to work closely on vehicles in the workshop, as well as shadowing full-time mechanics on work experience where I have fitted and changed brake pads, it’s been great being able to work on real client vehicles.”

Would you recommend the course?

“I would recommend the course, you learn together as a team but are also given the opportunity to work individually and test your skills, the best part is transferring the skills you learn in the student workshop out on work placements, dealing with paying customers.”
