Meet George, a former Oaklands College student who studied a Level 3 BTEC in Travel and Tourism, at our Welwyn Garden City campus.

Tell us about your time at Oaklands, what led you to study here and what did you enjoy about your time at the college?

“My time at Oaklands College was very enjoyable. What led me to choose to study at the college was that I was local to the Welwyn Garden City campus, it had the course that I wanted to study at the time and was central to where I now work.”

What are you doing now, since leaving Oaklands College?

“I am now working full-time as a Holiday Consultant and Customer Relations Assistant.”

What would you say was the major highlight of your time at Oaklands?

“My major highlight for Oaklands was the educational trips that we went on, there was a lot of trips and we learnt a lot from them.

What I enjoyed was the process of planning trips ourselves and working out the costings and logistics of each trip” – Experience which George can draw upon in his current full-time role.

What advice would you give to today’s Oaklands College students?

“The best advice I could give to Oaklands College students is to experience everything that the college has on offer, ultimately the more you do the more you will learn.”

Finally, would you recommend the course you studied to other students?

“I would highly recommend the course that I studied because it gives a great insight into the travel and tourism industry. It covers wide areas of what you can do after finishing college and you will develop some great experiences from pursuing the course.”
