Name: Katie
Course Studied: Level 1 Certificate in an Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children

Katie enrolled onto the Level 1 Certificate in an Introduction to Health, Social Care and Young People’s Settings at Oaklands College in 2018.

The Level 1 Certificate is a full time course which runs for one academic year and is designed to give an Introduction to 16-19 year olds wishing to develop a career in either the Health and Social Care or the Early Years Sectors. Whilst at the same time developing English, Maths and social skills.

Katie successfully completed the Level 1 Certificate in 2019, receiving positive feedback from her placement at Panshanger Primary School, where she helped the EYFS class teacher for a block-week work placement.

Katie has since progressed onto the Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care.

As part of her Level 2 course, Katie attends placement work experience at Busy Bees Nursery in Welwyn Garden City one day a week alongside her studies and has completed in excess of 100 hours of work experience to date.

At a recent visit to Busy Bees by their Area Director, they reported that having observed Katie with the children that “Katie is the most able and confident of students. She communicates well with children, getting down to their level and clearly has an excellent rapport with them.” The Director was impressed with the skills and attributes of Katie and her fellow Oaklands College students.

Since completing her work experience placement and receiving glowing feedback from the Area Director, Katie has since been offered part-time employment for days in which she is not studying at college.
