Lana, a Media Studies student who spent five years at Oaklands College progressing from a Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Creative Media Production through to graduating with a DMM (Distinction, Merit, Merit) in Foundation Degree Media Production, speaks to Oaklands about her college journey.

Lana, who has recently started the first year of her Bachelor of Arts in Film Production at the coveted Brighton Film School, spoke to Oaklands about her experience at the Welwyn Garden City campus.

Tell us about your time at Oaklands? What led you to study here and what did you enjoy most?

“I wanted to find a college which provided students with the latest and up-to-date technology and kit needed for film-making.

My experience at Oaklands College was really good, with Mark Garvey (Lecturer) playing a key part in how myself and my fellow students enjoyed the course.

My favourite moment, during my time at Oaklands, was winning “Best Writer” in the 48-Hour Film Project, which is a challenge set around the World where students are paired up and the whole class are tasked with creating a short film in just 48 hours.”

What advice would you give to students thinking of studying Media at Oaklands?

“I would recommend to every student interested in studying Media at Oaklands to go for it, concentrate on what your tutors are teaching you and you’ll pick up lots of skills and tips to take with you into your future.”
