Ross spoke to Oaklands College on the premises of the FIAT repairs and maintenance garage in St. Albans, about his experience on the course and his plans for the future:

What is it you enjoy about your course at Oaklands College?

“I enjoy how practical the learning experience is, I enjoy working with my hands and learning on the job and on clients vehicles as it sets me up for the future when I finish my course.”

Tell us about your work experience at FIAT, what have you enjoyed?

“I have really enjoyed the client-based work, I have been able to shadow technicians and employees here, I’ve learnt a lot about in depth servicing and improved my techniques.”

What are you plans for after you’ve completed your course?

“I plan to use the skills I’ve learnt and developed to go into full-time work as a mechanic at an independent garage.”

Finally, would you recommend the Motor Vehicle course to other students?

“I would, yes – The course covers all of the basics and teaches you the skills need to be able to go straight into employment after completing the Level 2 or Level 3 courses, you also gain industry contacts from the technicians at college which can help towards finding employment opportunities post-college.”
