We are proud to share the inspiring journey of Sadie, who has successfully built a career in the exciting world of visual effects. She currently works for Framestore, a leading VFX company, as a Systems Support Assistant.
Reflecting on her path, Sadie shared:
“I currently work for a VFX company, Framestore, as a Systems Support Assistant. My role includes rebuilding machines, handling staff tickets and requests, installing software packages, and even visiting film sets to help set up for shoots.”
The path to this dynamic role began with an application through the Framestore careers page, right after she completed her degree in Games Software Engineering from Bournemouth University. However, the foundation for her success was laid much earlier during her time at Oaklands College, where she studied from 2016 to 2018.
From an early age, Sadie was passionate about IT, which led her to Oaklands College. She chose the college due to its impressive IT facilities and the engaging tutors she met during the open day. She pursued a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT, drawn by her keen interest in the IT industry and the comprehensive modules offered by Oaklands. These modules covered various IT areas, keeping her interest piqued and aligning perfectly with her career aspirations.
Choosing Oaklands College was a pivotal decision for Sadie. The Welwyn Garden City Campus offered a fresh start and an environment that was both supportive and nurturing. Here, Sadie found not only academic excellence but also a sense of belonging and community. She recalls:
“I had lots of memories at Oaklands College, from doing work experience with Computacenter and Monarch Airlines, which helped me get my first part-time job in the IT industry, to running a walk-in help centre for IT issues inside The Galleria pop-up shop!”
The supportive atmosphere at Oaklands College extended to the staff, with teachers who were approachable, kind, and always ready to help. The college played a crucial role in supporting both her academic and personal growth. She emphasises the support she received:
“Oaklands really supported my academics as well as providing for the future. My tutors were amazing at helping provide career advice and even giving extra work to help further progress my knowledge of the IT industry.”
To current and prospective students, Sadie offers this heartfelt advice:
“Some advice I would give current or prospective students who are looking at Oaklands College is don’t be afraid to be yourself and ask questions! The college is an excellent place to help progress potential careers and academics further, so be as curious as you want to be!”
