SAM-AMEY-SQAURE

Name: Sam
Course: Level 2 Greenkeeping Apprenticeship

After his recent success in his End Point Assessment, Sam from Basingstoke Golf Club took some time out to answer some questions about his apprenticeship.

How has your apprenticeship benefited you?

“It has benefited me massively I now understand the many different aspects of Greenkeeping, I know how and why I am doing the range of tasks I perform on the golf course.  I am now a qualified Greenkeeper and feel I have a profession. I also have the respect my workmates and I have a qualification so I’m able to move on in my career and grow my knowledge.  I think the apprenticeship will open doors career wise in the future.  I’m more confident now to go to my manager with suggestions and feel that he will listen to what I have to say.”

what have you done while on the course?

“I volunteered for the on BMW Wentworth tournament and was accepted for both years I was on the apprenticeship, I really enjoyed the events and learned so much from taking part.  I’ve now volunteered for Open and have my fingers crossed that I will be accepted.”

How was your End Point Assessment and did you feel well prepared?

“I felt I was absolutely prepared and did really well in the exam. My tutor covered practice questions and carried out mock practical assessments to ensure I was ready. I found the practical exam quite a relaxing experience. I treated the EPA like he knew nothing about the industry and used all my knowledge and experience in each practical task. It was great to be able to talk about my course and the work the team has done on it. I must have said the right things as I gained a distinction overall for the apprenticeship.”

What’s next for Sam?

Sam is now hoping to start studying for his Level 3 Apprenticeship, before moving onto his PA2 (Point Assessment 2).
