Welwyn Garden City shoppers were treated to a surprise performance yesterday as more than 30 Oaklands Performing Arts students emerged from the crowd to take part in a flashmob.

Starting off with a snippet from their production of Cabaret and ending with Thriller, the well-known Michael Jackson routine, the Performing Arts students showed off their talents by dancing a mixture of jazz, pop and street dance to an array of surprised onlookers.

The flashmob was organised by students to warm up the community for their Media, Music, Preforming Arts festival, Synergy, which kicks off next Monday 16th with a lunchtime BBQ and live music followed by a photography exhibition at the College’s Welwyn Garden City campus.

Media student and organiser, Tom Harvell, commented: “The flashmob was a great way to capture the community’s attention and give them a taste of what’s to come next week.

“We’d like to say a massive thank you to Peter Harvey, Howard Centre Manager, for allowing us to take over and entertain the crowd at his shopping centre.”
