Information for Care Leavers and Children Looked After (CLA)

If you are a home student aged 24 or younger and a Care Leaver or Children Looked After our helpful and friendly Student Advisers can discuss with you any concerns you may have. They are also happy to give you information about studying at the college and the support in place to help you successfully complete your course.

Student Advisers work closely with the Virtual School, social workers and other agencies to ensure that students in care have the right support to help them succeed and achieve their goals.

If you would like to discuss the support available you can contact the student advice team on 01727 737000 or email gayle.brown@oaklands.ac.uk.

How do I know if I am a CLA student?

a) Any students aged 24 or below, whose birth parents were unable to provide ongoing care and who are/have been looked after by their local authority either as a result of voluntary agreement by their parents or the result of a care order. They are currently still supported through a social or key worker.

b) Any students aged 24 or below, who came to this country as unaccompanied minors and have been looked after a local authority on their arrival in the UK. Student Advisers can be located at each campus in the student centres or near reception.
