Name: Sophia Stylianou
Course: BSc (Hons) Construction Management
Sophia was looking for a career in construction and Oaklands provided the first step in her journey to achieving her goals.
Sophia first studied the HNC in Construction and went on to complete the BSc, followed by a Master’s degree at London Southbank University.
“The course gave me an introduction into the construction industry and an understanding of the practices and processes used to organise and carry out construction projects,” said Sophia, who now works as a quantity surveyor for built asset design and consultancy firm EC Harris.
“I studied part-time, so I was able to get a full-time job and study one day a week. This allowed me to overlap study with work and increased my knowledge rapidly by learning theory on the course.”
“The qualification I achieved at Oaklands has given me the platform I needed to jump-start my career. The staff were great, always understanding, very helpful, and had deep subject knowledge which made lectures always interesting and unpredictable.
“If you are interested in construction, this course will give you a great introduction to the industry and an understanding of the cycle of a construction project. As the course is approved by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), completing the course also provides you with the opportunity to become a member of a globally recognised professional body.
“My experience at Oaklands was the first step of my career journey and I’m glad that it was a good one."
