Students sink their teeth into Sub design competition

Budding entrepreneurs taking part in challenge to design new SUBWAY®

Young entrepreneurs from Oaklands College are taking part in a challenge set by the SUBWAY® brand to design and market a new nutritious Sub sandwich. Now in its third year, the SUBWAY® brand has re-launched the initiative to fresh thinking students following the success of last year’s competition.

Tied into the national curriculum (Business Studies and PSHE), the project will see school and college students compete to create the best marketing campaign and business plan around their new Sub, based on the theme of ‘#freshthinking’. Oaklands’ students are considering target market, competitors, pricing and promotion.

Winners of the competition will receive the prestigious prize of having their winning Sub design launched in SUBWAY® stores across the region for a limited period. In addition, a prize fund of £1,000 worth of Amazon vouchers is also up for grabs for the winning team, alongside £250 worth of Amazon vouchers for each of the top five runners-up.  Awards will be given for the best presentation, the best promotional idea and the overall winner.

SUBWAY® brand entrepreneur Bob Moodliar, who will sit on the judging panel for the final pitches, said: “The SUBWAY® brand wanted to give local students a platform to spotlight their entrepreneurial skills and this challenge will help them do just that. As part of our ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, we are pleased to be showcasing the fresh thinking and entrepreneurial spirit of young people in the region.”

Qualifying students will be asked to present their ideas in November in a Dragon’s Den style pitch in front of a judging panel of experts from the SUBWAY® brand at a Cambridge University venue.
