‘Foodie’s paradise’ the World Food Festival is back again for its sixth year – and this time around, it brings a little bit of Bake Off to Welwyn Garden City town centre.

The annual one-day food festival on Saturday 20th May sees food stalls, live music and activities take pride of place in the town centre with 10,000 visitors expected  This year will include a special guest appearance from Great British Bake Off winner Frances Quinn at 1.30pm.

Star of the cult TV show Frances who was crowned baking champion in 2013, will be just one in a series of live cooking demonstrations on stage throughout the day, sharing her top tips and recipes with the crowds. Oaklands College Young Chef of the Year Sophie Lotinga will be demonstrating her winning white chocolate mint mousse, with Linda Dobbs showing us how to make soda bread, alongside other chefs all cooking up a storm.

The event, organised by Welwyn Garden City BID in partnership with Oaklands College is expected to be even bigger than ever thanks to the support of the businesses in the BID area. This year over 30 stallholders will share their latest fresh food, and culinary gifts – a must see for anyone with a taste for cooking and cuisine.

This is the first of a fun packed year of events being organised and promoted by the BID.

With one of its campuses nestled in the town centre, Oaklands College are supporting the event by inviting students from various departments around the College to join in the food festivities. Students from Hospitality and Catering will be taking part in cooking demonstrations and serving food, and students from Music and Performing Arts will be taking to the stage to keep the crowds entertained.

Oaklands College Principal and Chief executive Zoe Hancock said: “Community is a huge part of our values at Oaklands and we are proud again to be hosting the Food Festival with the BID team.  It is always great to see our students take such a hands on role in community events.”
