Graphic Design students helped a local business shine at the recent Hertfordshire Digital Awards.

Business owner Katie Carr, who runs luxury baby clothing company Tommy & Lottie, wanted to produce animations that showed her customers that the materials used in her products were sustainable and ethically produced.

She approached the College’s Graphic Design Lecturer Phil Heath for help, who introduced her to two of his students, Johnathan Burke and Hannah Martin, both 17.

Their animations led to Tommy & Lottie being awarded the silver prize in the Use of Video for Business category of the Hertfordshire Digital Awards.

“Phil was so enthusiastic about getting involved with the animation project and selected two ideal candidates, Jonathan and Hannah, to design the animations for us,” said Katie. “I was so impressed by the standard of the designs and how easy it was to collaborate with them on this exciting project and to then go on and win awards for it is even better.“

“I am very pleased that Katie got an award from our animations,” said Hannah, from Stevenage. “It was a great experience working for her and her company. The achievement of creating something for a real client was eye-opening and a great life experience for my future career aspirations.”

Course Leader for Graphic Design & Interactive Media PhiI Heath said: “I am very proud of Hannah and Johnathan.  The award win is fantastic for them, but also a great example for our other students on the course, to show what can be achieved with some hard work, dedication and enthusiasm for their subject.”
