The College's invested £3.5m in improvements to the Welwyn Garden City Campus and an additional £1.75m from the Skills Funding Agency was approved in February 2013. The redevelopment has seen;
• Refurbishment and improved accessibility of Engineering provision plus conversion of current performing arts spaces which will be remodelled and extended to accommodate the extra demand for Engineering, as well as the creation of the brand new Engineering Resource Centre (ERC).
• Relocation of Performing Arts into an under utilised gym space which has been remodelled to create a new theatre and dance space
• Refurbishment, internal reconfiguration and expansion of the entrance, LRC and Student Services to address DDA compliance, improve poor condition of accommodation and provide adequate and suitable learning and support space for students including much improved information, advice and guidance
• Replacement of single glazed windows, roof insulation and heating infrastructure upgrades to include replacement of 1960’s and 1970’s heat emitters pipework.
The project has improved accessibility, upgraded poor condition accommodation, improved energy efficiency, provided fit for purpose accommodation to enhance the student experience and enabled the College to implement its curriculum strategy in line with local and regional employer and skill demands.
The new facilities opened last year (2015).
