Local families flocked to Oaklands College St Albans Campus this weekend for a fun-filled, event packed day of enjoyment at the annual Summer Fair.

Guests were kept entertained by an exciting array of entertainment and fine cuisine, local stall holders, fairground rides and activities and much more.

Students and staff of the Oaklands College Hospitality and Catering department were on hand to deliver an exquisite Afternoon Tea for guests, who sampled some of the finest cakes and hot beverages.

Despite the recent fire at the Discovery Centre, Oaklands College championed its ‘Working Together’ college value, ensuring the Summer Fair went ahead as planned.

The annual event, which this year welcomed over 6,000 guests to the expansive acreage surrounding the historic Mansion House, welcomed the popular donkey rides, falconry displays, local dance academy performances, children’s entertainment, puppet shows and much more.

Much of the day’s entertainment was provided by the colleges impressive Performing Arts and Music students, who sang for guests on the main stage.

Families were able to enjoy tractor rides around the venue, whilst hungry visitors enjoyed a vast array of culinary delicacies from Thai and Middle Eastern inspired dishes, to crepes and traditional German bratwurst.

The Equine Centre delivered demonstrations throughout the event, including show jumping, dressage, simulated indoor cross country and Equine student flatwork lessons.

Visitors also took the opportunity to visit our College’s animal management centre to meet with staff, students and some of the animals cared for by the team in Oaklands Habitat and also see special demonstrations hosted in the campus Equine Yard.

Oaklands College Principal and Chief Executive Zoe Hancock said: “Summer Fair is one of the biggest events in our calendar, with thousands of guests sampling the best of Oaklands College. We thoroughly enjoyed putting this free event on for the local community and look forward to welcoming more guests to our grounds for future events.”
