Three International catering awards

Three Oaklands College learners were confirmed as award winners at the prestigious Bournemouth International Hotel and Catering Show, recognised as one of the leading competitions in the industry.

Three Oaklands College learners were confirmed as award winners at the prestigious Bournemouth International Hotel and Catering Show, recognised as one of the leading competitions in the industry.

The competition attracted competitors from all Europe and the standard was exceptionally high. The three successful learners were all in the Wessex Salon Culinaire, which forms part of World Skills UK, and is acknowledged as the UK’s biggest Young Chef and Waiting Competition.

The three winners were Adam Chamberlin (Gold 2nd in class for Chicken cut for sauté), Rose White (Bronze live fish) and Daniel Biggs Merit cuts of vegetable). All three winners are learners within the successful Hospitality and Catering Department based at Oaklands College Alban Park campus, offering a bespoke and modern kitchen based learning environment. 

The students were supported at the competition by Hospitality and Catering Lecturer Paul Wood who said; “This is a phenomenal achievement and it is testament to the hard work and dedication of the learners.”

Oaklands College Hospitality and Catering Head of Skills Rosemary Turley added; “We have an exciting and growing provision at Oaklands College and we aim to continue nurturing and developing catering talents like Adam, Daniel and Rose. These awards mark them as Chefs of the future and with dedicated lecturers offering industrial experience like Paul, coupled with our outstanding facilities we will ensure to keep delivering real talent to the catering industry.”
