The college operates two mens teams who compete in regular fixtures. On Wednesdays. The 1st XV competes in the highest level of competition in the Colleges AASE League, playing against other colleges affiliated to Premiership and Championship teams across the country, giving players excellent exposure to not only Saracens Academy coaches, but coaches from other academies as well. The Development XV plays in the Regional Association of College League and other friendly fixtures. There is also a dedicated period of the season where certain players will have the opportunity to focus on the seven-a-side format of the game for those suited to it.

It may be possible to study another subject but please discuss this with your academy trainer first.

Other course options on the curriculum, but not listed above may allow some participation on the rugby programme but not all course options are actively timetabled to accommodate the rugby schedule.

For those who require retakes in maths or English, these can be retaken alongside the rugby and study programme.

There are also opportunities to undertake RFU coaching and refereeing qualifications.

Oaklands Wolves Elite Women's Rugby Programme

September 2019 will see a refreshed vision for the women’s rugby programme, with the college working in collaboration with Saracens Women. The women’s game is in a period of exciting growth at all levels from junior grassroots level through to the elite pathways, with the creation of the Tyrell’s Women’s Premiership and professional, centrally contracted players. The programme will operate, at least initially, as a small hub for talented players to work throughout the week on their personal rugby and athletic development, heading back to their clubs for games and team training.

Working in their own small group, girls on the programme will be supported in their personal development through individual skill development and access to strength and conditioning and medical services. Training will be delivered jointly by coaches from the college and Saracens Women.

Players on the programme will gain access to playing opportunities through their respective club teams and the representative pathway at weekends.

The rugby programme is dedicated to enabling players to become better-educated rugby players, athletes and students of the game. Students on the programme will leave with the necessary skills to thrive as rugby players, be that as a professional, semi-professional, university player or amateur.

Applications are invited for all courses available on the college curriculum at present.

February open day is now fully booked. Don't miss out on our September start book your place on the following trial days:

Join us for one of our open events to discover how to join the Oaklands Wolves Rugby Academy in September 2019.

Since 2006, in partnership with Saracens Rugby Club, Oaklands College have provided fantastic opportunity for ambitious young rugby players to continue their education in an excellent institution as well as work intensively on developing their skills in sport.

Joining Wolves Academy at Oaklands College gives students aged 16 to 19 a way to grow with a view to progressing to the professional game, club rugby in the national or local leagues, or university and beyond.

The Taster day will begin at 10.00, and finish at approximately 13.30 and will include:

  • A Taster Skills Session
  • A Taster Video analysis Session
  • A Taster Gym Session
  • A presentation for parents
  • A Trial Training Session*

The taster day is broken into two parts, the first part is to show you what you might expect from a typical day at the college, with skills, gym and video analysis sessions taking place for prospective applicants to participate in.

Parents will have the opportunity to watch the skills session and then there will be a short presentation for the parents whilst the prospective students continue with their taster sessions.

The second part of the day will involve a short trial to assess playing ability of those in attendance. We are not expecting to see 30-40 international standard rugby players at each event, but we do expect a certain level of competence within the core skills; pass, catch, run, tackle, as well as a reasonable level of physical fitness and a drive to improve.
