Recently, Oaklands College hosted the annual Rotary Young Chef Competition at The Stables Restaurant at its St Albans Campus.

The competition, which is organised and promoted by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (Rotary GB&I) has three stages, with each designed to support and encourage the developments of cookery skills.

Students from local Hertfordshire Rotary clubs at schools and colleges took part in the competition, with the winner of each heat entered into a district competition. It was an opportunity for current Hospitality & Catering students at Oaklands College to take part and volunteer their services to help with the event, and witness first-hand the setup and efforts that go in to running a professional event.

Mark Sharples; Coordinator in Hospitality & Catering at Oaklands said:

We are pleased to be able to welcome the Rotary Young Chef competition back to the college this year. Not only does the event offer us the opportunity to work closely with young budding chefs in Hertfordshire, but it gives our current cohort of students valuable work experience as they help to coordinate the event. The talent on display was fantastic and we hope to see lots of entrant returning to take up Hospitality & Catering as part of their studies.

Students interested in pursuing a career in catering can do so by studying a range of vocational courses, starting at Level 1 Introductory Diplomas through to Level 3 Advanced Professional Cookery. For more information and to apply for a September start, click here.
