On March 31 students from both the Citizenship and Government & Politics A Level went to London to take part in the Young Citizens’ Say AV Referendum debate.

This debate was hosted by The Co-Operative and The Institute for Citizenship was televised live around the country.

Our learners were involved in two debates, the first regarding general political issues and the second about the AV referendum. They were able to address their questions to politicians such as Simon Hughes MP, Mark Harper MP, David Blunkett MP and the debates were hosted by Jo Coburn – BBC Political Editor and Dermot Murnaghan – Sky News and Eggheads presenter. Peter Dickson from the X Factor provided the voice overs for the day.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all. It was extremely interactive through the use of red – no/ green – yes cards such as in Ready, Steady, Cook as well the Question Time style debate sessions.
