Our Animal care students have returned from an unforgettable trip to South Africa, where they took part in hands-on conservation work and meaningful cultural exchange in support of Gap Africa Projects. During their visit, the students helped monitor iconic African wildlife, including lions, elephants, and rhinos—important work supporting ongoing conservation efforts.
A standout moment of the trip was assisting with the darting of a giraffe to allow veterinary treatment, giving students rare experience in wildlife health and care.
The group also visited a local school, where they took part in friendly football and netball matches with children from nearby villages. These activities helped build strong connections with the local community.
In addition to their conservation work and cultural exchange, the students enjoyed kayaking and fishing in South Africa’s stunning natural surroundings. These moments provided time to reflect on their experiences in a truly remarkable setting.
The trip offered valuable insight into animal care and conservation while encouraging teamwork, responsibility, and global awareness. It was an enriching experience that brought learning to life outside the classroom.
