Hat-trick of titles for Wolves basketball

Hat-trick of titles for Wolves basketball

Oaklands Wolves are again celebrating as three of their junior teams followed in the footsteps of the their Super League Women's Cup winning team by clinching league titles.

George Walker's U-12 boys team suffered just one defeat in 18 games, and they clinched the title with a 69-58 victory at the only team who could deny them, Kingston Wildcats.

Their only defeat came with a 65-56 loss at Bracknell Cobras but they gained revenge against the Berkshire side with 70-43 home victory when the teams met a month ago.

A 78-37 home victory against Cambridge Cats on Sunday sealed the East Conference title for Wolves U-16 girls, but Dani McCray's sides faced a tough battle with Northants Lightning and Kent Crusaders as the top three lost just one game against the other six teams in the league and all six games between the title chasers went the way of the home team. Wolves and Northants finished tied with  14-2 records, but Wolves' 72-51 home win against Lightning proved key despite a 72-66 loss on the road.

Wolves will face Northern Premier basement side Trafford Magic is a two-leg play-off as they look to make an immediate return to the top flight following last summer's controversial relegation.

Things were a lot simpler for Wolves U-18 girls as they romped to the South Conference title. Sunday's 76-66 victory at likely runners-up Brixton Topcats gave Lavinia Da Silva's team- which is run alongside the senior Division Two team to give all the academy players regular basketball - a perfect 12-0 record with an average 44-point margin of victory.

Both of Wolves U-16 and U-14 boys' teams have clinched places in the end of season play-offs, with both sides finishing fifth with 14-8 records in 12-team leagues.

Walker's U-14s wrapped up clinched the 13th seed spot with a pair of home wins over the weekend. Kent Panthers were beaten 90-75 on Saturday before Sunday saw Wolves complete their second victory against Ipswich in the space of nine days with a 97-45 win. Wolves will travel to London Legends in the play-offs.

Michael Ball's U-16s will travel to Western Premier champions London Warriors in the play-offs, and they completed their league campaign with a 109-71 home victory against Brentwood Fire on Saturday.

The pair join Wolves women's Division Two side who finished their league season a week ago but are waiting on other results to see if they travel to champions MK Breakers or runners-up in the quarter-final.

A huge congratulations to all junior club members and staff involved.
