Hospitality and Catering students at Oaklands College recently enjoyed an exciting industry visit to the Great Scotland Yard Hotel on Thursday 5 March, gaining valuable insight into the world of luxury hospitality.
During the visit, students had the unique opportunity to meet the hotel’s Executive team and Directors, who shared their experiences of working within the high-end hospitality sector. Their insights provided a real-world perspective on the skills, standards, and dedication required to succeed in such a competitive industry.
As part of the experience, students were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the hotel’s impressive facilities, including the penthouse and luxury suites, offering a glimpse into the level of detail and service expected in premium hospitality environments.
The visit also included a practical skills session in the fine dining kitchen at Ekstedt at The Yard, where students observed and experienced the techniques and precision required in a professional kitchen setting. This hands-on element allowed learners to see first-hand how classroom knowledge translates into industry practice.
A particular highlight of the day was an engaging menu planning session led by Executive Head Chef Rukh Gupta. Students were encouraged to think creatively while learning how menus are carefully designed and developed within a high-end restaurant environment.
The Hospitality and Catering team are now looking forward to welcoming Chef Rukh Gupta back to campus for a special partnership dinner on 18 June, further strengthening this valuable industry connection.
