Oaklands College proudly represented the East Region at this year’s AoC Sport National Championships, with student-athletes from Hockey, Netball, and Basketball stepping up to compete against the best college teams from across the country. Across a weekend of high-level competition, the Oaklands Wolves demonstrated not only their talent, but also their teamwork, sportsmanship, and passion for their sports.
The Hockey team had a standout tournament, going unbeaten all the way to the final. With strong performances in the group stages and a clinical display in the knockout rounds, the team quickly established themselves as serious contenders. They faced Peter Symonds College in the final — a hard-fought match that saw Oaklands narrowly edged out, securing a fantastic 2nd place finish and a silver medal. The team’s communication, skill and composure under pressure was impressive, and they can be incredibly proud of how far they came.
Over on the Netball courts, the Wolves battled their way to a 4th place finish in a fiercely competitive field. The squad showed exceptional teamwork and determination across the tournament, with every player stepping up when it mattered most. Despite picking up a couple of injuries, the team stayed resilient and continued to compete at a high level throughout. Their unity and spirit were clear to see, and they gained plenty of respect from spectators and other teams alike.
The Basketball team faced one of the toughest groups in the tournament, but they rose to the challenge with heart and resilience. Finishing 6th overall, the team gave everything in each game, maintaining focus and a positive attitude even when the results didn’t go their way. Their professionalism, energy, and support for one another made a big impression, and they were fantastic ambassadors not just for Oaklands, but for the East Region as a whole.
Beyond the results, the tournament was a celebration of college sport — and the Wolves absolutely embodied that spirit. From the early starts to the final whistle, every athlete gave their all, representing Oaklands with pride and passion.
A massive thank you goes out to all the staff who supported the teams over the weekend — from coaches to organisers, chaperones to logistics teams. Your hard work behind the scenes made this experience possible, and your commitment to the students didn’t go unnoticed.
Well done to everyone involved — you’ve made Oaklands proud!
