On Wednesday, Oaklands College’s Women’s Rugby Academy faced City of Oxford in the ACE League play-off final, hosted at Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club.
Oxford started strong, opening the scoring early and leaving Oaklands trailing. However, the team quickly found their rhythm, applying constant high pressure and breaking through Oxford’s defence to score their first try in the opening quarter.
By halftime, Oxford led 26-15, making the second half a challenging comeback. But Oaklands came out determined, closing the gap quickly and eventually taking the lead. The roar from the stands spurred the team on, keeping their momentum until the final whistle. The game ended 31-32 to Oaklands, marking a thrilling victory and a memorable moment for all involved.
For the second-year players, this match was particularly significant, as it marked their final outing as part of the Oaklands Women’s Rugby Academy pack.
Head Coach Niamh praised the team’s effort:
“Wednesday’s result is testimony to the hard work and dedication of the entire academy. To win it in the manner which we did, playing such an exciting brand of rugby, encompassing the Saracens DNA, reflects the resilience of the team, and ultimately the Wolfpack here at Oaklands College. To be able to give our 2nd years in particular that send-off is something which sets this group of players apart. Bring on next season!”
This victory concludes the regular 15’s season on a high note and represents an incredible milestone for the Women’s Rugby Academy. Congratulations to all players, coaches, and supporters involved in this unforgettable achievement.
