Final Ends Level After Dramatic Comeback Effort

Wolves finished as runners-up in the England Colleges RFU Cup after a 31-31 draw with Cardinal Newman School, based near Brighton on the south coast. The final was played at Walsall Rugby Club and ended in dramatic fashion, with the result decided by the countback rule.

Both teams were level on tries and conversions, but Cardinal Newman were awarded the win after scoring the first try of the match.

It was a tough first half, with our side trailing 31-12 at the break. First-half tries came from Rafe Burley and Seth Cakebread. After the restart, Sean Codrington-Lambert scored early to kick off a second-half comeback.

Late tries from Jonno Knightley and Lui Kane — the last coming in the final play of the game — brought us level. Toby Weingarth kicked three of the five conversions.

A strong second-half performance showed the team’s character, but it wasn’t quite enough on the day.
