Wolfpack Dominate at Herts County Schools Championships

Wolfpack Dominate at Herts County Schools Championships with 6 Medals

This weekend the Wolfpack competed at the annual Hertfordshire County Schools championships at the local venue of Jarman Park, Hemel Hempstead.

With a total of 6 medals, the team had a very strong showing in the u20 category.

Starting the day off in the field, second year Rhiana Drew defended her title from last year in the hammer throw with a distance of 36.97m to decide the first gold of the day.

Corazon Da Silva started the day on the track in the 200m, which turned out to be a mixed race between male and female athletes. This didn't put her off though and she stormed to victory from lane 1 to get our second gold of the day in a time of 27.53s.

Corazon wasn't done there, as she was joined by Gracelynne Agyapong in the 100m. In a tight race, Gracelynne set a new windy PB of 12.24 to finish second and secure the silver medal; while Corazon finished 5th in an equal PB of 13.01.

Next up was Griffyn Archer Jones, who secured the silver medal in a time of 22.69 in a fast paced race won is 22.55.

Finishing up on the track was first year Kerem Eryilmaz, in a hotly contested 800m and a huge field, he fought his way through to finish 11th overall.

Second year Poppy Radford defended her Javelin title; winning the competition in a throw of 35.80m. She is ranked number 14 in the UK currently and secured automatic selection into the English Schools team.

In the final event of the day, Godwin Mutandwa produced some big throws in the discus to secure the 4th gold of the day. His effort of 46.83m ranks him number 7 in the UK currently. Godwin also automatically qualified for the English schools team.

A very successful weekend for the Wolfpack; with English Schools Championship selection happening over the next 2 weeks, we are looking to push onto national medals next! The English schools championships will take place in July.
